Make Home the entrance and Advice the post list

1. Publish the existing Home page

Open Pages → All Pages and reopen the Home draft you built earlier. Check its introduction, services, About link and checklist. Choose Publish, read the confirmation panel, and confirm Home only. Wait for WordPress to report that it is published. This makes Home available on our safe practice copy; it is not the launch of a real business website.

2. Create one empty Advice page

Return to Pages → All Pages. Check whether Advice already exists; reuse it if it does. Otherwise choose Add Page. Close Choose a pattern if it opens, then type Advice as the title. Leave the body empty. This page will be a destination for the post list, which the theme supplies. We do not build that list by typing advice into the page body.

3. Publish Advice on the practice copy

Choose Publish, read the confirmation panel, and confirm this Advice page. Wait for the published state. The empty page now exists, but WordPress has not yet been told to use it for the post list. We choose that role next.

4. Give the two pages different jobs

Open Settings → Reading. Under Your homepage displays, choose A static page. Set Homepage to Home and Posts page to Advice. Home is the entrance at the site’s main address. Advice is the place that lists posts. WordPress calls its setting Posts page even though our page’s name is Advice. Choose two different pages and leave the other Reading settings as they are.

5. Save and read the settings back

Choose Save Changes and wait for the confirmation. Reload Reading settings. Check that A static page is still selected, Homepage is Home and Posts page is Advice. If either page is missing from a list, check that the intended existing page was published, then return here.

6. Open the main address as a visitor

Open your site’s main address in a separate signed-out browser window. Use the normal site address, not a draft-preview link. Check that Home shows the saved introduction, service list, About link and checklist with its caption. Follow About our approach and check the existing About page, then return to Home. There should be no editing bar. The header currently lists pages automatically; we will set its order in the next lesson.

7. Check Advice as the post list

Open the normal Advice link on your own site. Our practice copy uses /advice/. Check that it lists Before your first garden visit and its advice text. In this version of Twenty Twenty-Five, the list’s large heading says Blog. Its address and Reading role still belong to Advice. The theme supplies this post list; the ordinary Advice page body stays empty.

8. Follow the post title

On the Advice list, choose Before your first garden visit. Read the main title and both original advice sentences. The first-visit tag should still appear below the text. You can check Getting ready in All Posts if needed. This is the same published advice you organised earlier. Home and the post list now have separate jobs and useful links.

Practise

Open the main site address while signed out and check Home. Then open Advice and follow the existing post title. Return to Reading settings and explain why Home and Advice are selected in different fields.

Check your result

Home is published and selected as Homepage. One empty published Advice page is selected as Posts page. The signed-out main address shows the Home content; Advice lists the existing post and its title link opens the correct advice. About, the post’s category and tag, and the Privacy Policy draft are preserved.
